Abstract

A range of 1,9-dicyano-dipyrromethanes were prepared from 1,9-dicarboxy- or 1,9-diunsubstituted-dipyrromethanes by decarboxylation (of the acids) and treatment with chlorosulfuryl-isocyanate in DMF; a dicyanodifurylmethane was prepared similarly. These 1,9-dicyano derivatives are important as precursors to ’’expanded’’ porphyrin-like macrocycles.
