| Abstract | The reduction of gold(III) fluorosulfate, Au(SO3F)3 with either gold powder or carbon monoxide, in fluorosulfuric acid, HSO3F, yields gold(II) fluorosulfate as a yellow-red solid in high yield. Based on magnetic measurements and vibrational spectra, formulation as mixed valency Au(I) Au(III)-(SO3F)4 is suggested. Evidence from ESR measurements for a solvated, paramagnetic Au(II)-species in the supernatant solution is obtained and discussed. |
