Chemistry Professor William Cullen made the outside cover of the Journal of Environmental Monitoring (JEM), Issue 3, with the article “Arsenic speciation in freshwater snails and its life cycle variation”. The Journal of Environmental Monitoring (JEM), published by the Royal Society of Chemistry, covers research on environmental processes and impacts.
The article reports on the arsenic speciation in freshwater snails from Pender Island and Vancouver Island in Canada. Little is currently known about arsenic speciation and its life cycle variation in these gastropods, which are an important food source for many creatures including fish and birds, and are occasionally consumed by humans.
