Abstract | Simulations are used to show that fluids of charged hard spheres and charged hard dumbbells have similar liquid-vapor coexistence curves. We conclude that the condensation of ionic fluids is largely driven by the interaction of ion pairs. The relevance of this observation to current theories of ionic condensation is discussed.
