Section 1 Introduction to coordination chemistry; survey of coordination numbers, stereochemistry, and ligand types; elementary bonding theories; structure determination; nomenclature.

Section 2 Structural and stereoisomerism.

Section 3 Symmetry elements and point groups. Determination of molecular point group and determination of shape given the point group. Symmetry, and dipole moment and chirality.

Section 4 Synthetic reactions: addition, substitution, dissociation, redox, reactions of coordinated ligands. Catalytic processes. Inertness and lability. Trans-effect. Reactions in non-aqueous media.

Section 5 Crystal field theory; magnetic properties and CF stabilization energy; electronic absorption spectra, spectrochemical series; Jahn-Teller effect; thermodynamics and crystal field effects.

Section 6 Stability constants; stability correlations; chelate effect.

Section 7 Metal-Metal Bonds; Prussian blue
