Abstract:
G-quadruplexes (G4) are DNA secondary structures which play important roles in the regulation of gene expression in cells and have been proposed as therapeutic targets for different diseases. Design, synthesis and therapeutic evaluation of G4 ligands as anticancer and antiparasitic drugs will be discussed. Later, the synthesis of new phenolic derivatives as potential drugs for the treatment of retinal degenerative diseases will be presented. Finally, how the results from this research line have led to a new spin-off company will also be disclosed.
