Abstract:
Cyclobutane-1,3-diyl of biradical can live only under the cryogenic conditions. However, replacing the skeletal atoms with main group elements has provided a number of isolable congeners of cyclobutane-1,3-diyl. The successful stabilization of 1,3-diphosphacyclobutane-2,4-diyl in air has prompted to explore functionalities of the open-shell phosphorus heterocycle. This paper demonstrates our recent findings on p-type semiconducting behavior and reversible chemical redox processes together with notable structural aspects.
