Admissions Information

STEP 1: APPLICATION TO UBC

Prospective students do not apply for admission directly into a Chemistry program.  Prospective students wanting to pursue Chemistry at UBC must apply to the University for admission to the Faculty of Science through our Prospective Students YOUBC website.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR FACULTY OF SCIENCE

STEP 2: REQUIREMENTS FOR CHEMISTRY

High Level Summary

  • Achieve competitive average of at least 70% on 30-33 credits of study in Winter Session (Sep to Apr)
  • Complete appropriate Chemistry pre-requisites (two courses in Chemistry, Mathematics) and Faculty of Science requirements
  • Eligible for second year level (or higher) standing

REQUIREMENTS FOR CHEMISTRY SPECIALIZATIONS AT UBC

POST SECONDARY TRANSFERS

STEP 3: APPLY TO SPECIALIZE IN CHEMISTRY

Progressing from first to second year (or beyond) is exciting, and involves a bit of soul searching and planning.  Admission to the Chemistry Major and Honours programs is restricted to appropriately qualified students in the Faculty of Science. Students normally apply to the Faculty of Science for provisional entry into a chemistry degree program at the beginning of their second year by submitting an application to specialize.

UBC faculty transfers or post-secondary transfer students will include your specialization on your admission application.
