5 lectures Synthetic reactions: addition, substitution, dissociation, redox, reactions of coordinated ligands. Inertness and lability. Trans-effect. Reactions in non-aqueous media.
5 lectures Crystal field theory; magnetic properties and CF stabilization energy; electronic absorption spectra, spectrochemical series; Jahn-Teller effect; thermodynamics and crystal field effects.
2 lectures Stability constants; stability correlations; chelate effect; electrochemistry.
3 lectures Industrial and biological applications of metal chelation; sequestration of metal ions; role of metal ions in biology - metalloproteins; chelating agents and coordination compounds in medicine.
