Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering constructs and repairs custom and purchased equipment used for Chemistry research and teaching. 

Equipment design and maintenance capabilities include:

  • Design and precision machining of vacuum sections, mounts, ion optics, flight tubes, cannulas, etc.
  • Vacuum pump maintenance and overhaul
  • Leak testing and vacuum maintenance
  • General lab equipment design and mechanical maintenance

The MES technicians have substantial experience working with chemists and physicists to create specialized equipment using diverse materials and machining techniques. Students and researchers are encouraged to visit us to discuss how we can best help them to achieve their research and teaching objectives.
