Chiral catalysts in polymerization (or how I learned to stop worrying and love indium)

A family of chiral indium complexes and their reactivity for the ring opening polymerization of lactide to form poly(lactic acid), a leading biodegradable polyester has been explored.  These indium complexes are also capable of the highly controlled living and immortal ring opening polymerization of other cyclic esters, such as butyrolactone, and show an unprecedented combination of activity, selectivity, and functional group tolerance.
